As Will
County grows, unfortunately the number of incidents
of violence against women grows, too:
June
2007: Kimberly Vaughn and her 3 children
were found shot to death inside their family SUV.
September 2006: Regina DeLos Santos died
of multiple stab wounds.
August 2006: Sylvia Addams died of a
gunshot wound.
Today
there are women missing without a trace: Lisa
Stebic, Stacy Peterson… |
Dear
Community Member/Business Leader,
Violence against women will not go away if we just shut our
eyes to it. The Will County Take Back the Night
steering committee is asking for your help in opening eyes
to an insidious problem in all of our communities.
In
the past, many of you have generously responded with
donations, as well as attended our annual vigil and march.
Again we come to you – our friends and members of the
community – for help rallying attention to our cause and
providing support to victims, victims’ families, and
survivors of violence.
Our
12th annual Will County Take Back the Night event
will take place Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 at 6:00 pm. at Joliet
West High School on the corner of Larkin and Glenwood Ave.,
Joliet. “A Crime of Violence Against Women” is this
year’s theme.
The
more than 50 women and children, who have been murdered in
Will County over the last 10 years, and those who have
survived, will be honored at the candlelight vigil.
Information on how women can get help locally will also be
provided. Will County Take Back the Night insignia
items will be available for purchase, as well.
We
ask that you please support Will County Take Back the
Night through sponsorships listed on the other side of
this page. By sponsoring this event, you will help make a
difference in the lives of many by providing support to
local agencies that work with domestic violence. Your
financial support will be noted in our program book.
Another way you can help is to post a sign on your marquee
or a poster in your workplace announcing the vigil and march
event.
For more information about the event,
go to the Will County Take Back the Night website at
www.willtbtn.com or contact Mary
Jaworski at 815/727-5371.
Thank you,

the Night – 2008 Steering Committee
